First DSD 256 Releases for Blue Coast Records!

Blue Coast Records announces the release of their first downloads in DSD 256 or Quad DSD (not to be confused with surround sound, this is a stereo format of the highest quality).  The first 3 songs launched are all mixes from the original recording sessions for the Blue Coast Collection, The E.S.E. Sessions, which will be released in its entirety in early fall in DSD 256.  DSD is short for Direct Stream Digital, a one bit recording format.  A full length album in DSD 256 can be as large as 8-10 gigabytes.

The music was transferred from the original 1/2" mix masters to DSD 256.  Two of the first three songs are extended versions, never before released.  These sessions were supervised by Cookie Marenco, producer and engineer on the original Blue Coast Collection sessions.  The artists involved on the recordings are Keith Greeninger, Dayan Kai, Tony Furtado and Rob Ickes.

Marenco and the crew at Blue Coast Records took great pains to keep the consumer downloads in the DSD domain without ever touching PCM.  "It was a daunting task at times" says Marenco, "but the sound quality is nearly identical to the tape.  We took our time to do it right and it made a difference."
