Springhouse represents a deep musical collaboration between a group of longtime friends and seasoned co-conspirators: Jane Selkye, Chris Kee, Fred Hyer, and David Phillips. Each member brings a rich history of experience from diverse musical backgrounds. Jane Selkye is known for her work with Me Jane, while Chris Kee has performed with Houston Jones, Jim Campilongo, Peter Rowan, and Buddy Miller. Fred Hyer has contributed his talents to groups such as The Vicious Hippies, The Natives, Buffalo Roam, and Grapefruit Ed, and David Phillips possesses an extensive resume spanning from Johnny Paycheck to the San Francisco Symphony and Metallica.
The unique sound of the quartet is defined by the merging of their individual artistic strengths. Selkye’s quicksilver vocal style pairs with the astral expanse of Phillips’ pedal steel, all supported by Hyer’s voluptuous grooves and the architectural precision of Kee’s bass lines, and all comes together to shape each song as they record live in the studio for Blue Coast Records.
